As we get set for the winter season, EcoSuperior is reminding residents to test the Radon levels in their homes.
A member of the noble gasses on the periodic table, Radon is naturally occurring and caused by the breakdown of Uranium in the soil. It is odourless, tasteless and can enter homes through cracks in the foundation and drains and pipes.
According to EcoSuperior’s Radon Coordinator Kelsey Agnew, “The only way to know if your home has high levels of radon is to do a long-term test. Every home and the land it is on is unique and therefore requires its own individual testing.”
Outside it is relatively harmless, however it can affect your health if accumulated at high levels indoors, with Lung Cancer Canada listing Radon as the leading cause of cancer in non-smokers.
A free webinar is available to Thunder Bay residents on November 15, and on November 22nd at libraries in Nipigon and Red Rock. Real Estate Professionals can also register for a free professional webinar on November 16th to increase their knowledge to support their clients.
