Skilled trades are highly valued and often overlooked when people are searching out career paths.
After the province committed to build 1.5 million new homes in the next 10 years, it was also clear there would need to be ore people to help erect them.
Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development made the announcement today in Thunder Bay that the Ford the government would be on investing $1.5 million into training Indigenous people in the skilled trades.
Morw than 100 Indigenous people will get practical, hands-on training and apprenticeship experience
Two of the programs will be managed by Anishinabek Employment and Training Services (AETS) with the Carpenters Union Local 1669 and Confederation College.
Another program will be offers from KKETS who is receiving a $644,000 investment from the province.
This program also offers training and a 12 week paid apprenticship.
Trade employers will also have access to funds that will help them hire workers.
It’s estimated that by 2030, 1 in 5 jobs will be in a skilled trade.
