The Clerk for the Municipality of Shuniah, Kerry Bellamy, says the election process for residents in that community can resume.
This comes more than a week after the Declaration of Emergency on election night for the entire area after one name was left off the ballot for the English Separate School Board Trustee race, which affected the ballots in Shuniah only.
That emergency caused a delay in results being reported as precautions had to be taken to prevent them from being voided.
“Shuniah’s English Separate School Board Election voting period will start on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 9 am and end on Monday November 21, 2022 at 8 pm,” said Bellamy. “Residents in Shuniah will begin receiving their Voter Information letters in the mail shortly, and candidates for the Thunder Bay District Catholic School Board and the Director of the Board have been notified.”
Results for the English Separate School Board will not be shared publicly with candidates or scrutineers until Shuniah concludes its election. Results collected in the City of Thunder Bay, Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge, Municipality of Neebing, Township of Gillies, Township of O’Connor, Township of Conmee, and the unorganized area are unaffected. Those ballots have already been received and secured from public release.
“Ballots for the Thunder Bay District School Board race will be tabulated on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 and results announced to the public,” according to City Clerk Krista Power, who holds responsibility for tabulating all the results from the surrounding municipalities.
