The countdown is on until the ghosts and goblins hit our streets, looking to fill their bags with sugary or salty treats.
In anticipation of the smaller and eccentrically dressed, the Ontario Provincial Police have this list of safety tips to keep trick-or-treaters safe this year.
· Look both ways before crossing the street.
· Carry a flashlight and wear reflective clothing.
· Don’t visit houses that are not well lit up, and NEVER go inside a stranger’s home.
· Always travel in groups. Make sure there are at least two or more people with you at all times.
· Plan the route you are going before you leave your house.
· Let your parents know where you are going to be.
· Do not criss-cross back and forth across the street. Work your way down one side of the street, then start on the other.
· Avoid eating unwrapped candy and homemade treats from strangers.
· Always have your treats checked by an adult before eating them.
Trick or treating begins at several different times in many of the communities across the Acadia Broadcasting region including:
Thunder Bay and Nipigon – approximately 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Kenora – approximately 5:30 p.m. – 6:30/7:00 p.m.
Dryden – approximately 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Red Lake – approximately 5:00 p.m. to 8:00/8:30 p.m.
