Northern Ontario is getting three more health teams.
The province has announced that the City and District of Thunder Bay will be receiving a new health team, another team in the Kiiwetinoong region that will serve Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Dryden. And a third team that will serve members of the Sault Ste. Marie community.
The goal of these health teams is to allow for easier transitions between care providers including having one merged patient record.
With a single streamlined health record between all care providers, the new health teams are aimed at helping those in rural, Indigenous, Francophone and all that are part of other diverse communities.
This makes up a total of 54 health teams across the province.
The provincial government invested over $48.4 million in funding during 2021 and 2022 into digital health and virtual care projects, with 229 approved Ontario Health Teams projects, impacting over 792,000 patients across all projects.
The Ontario government is expecting similar types of opportunities to be available again in 2022-2023.
