The six-month timeline is up for employers to lay out a policy on electronically monitoring staff while at work.
Companies in Ontario, that have at least 25 employees, now need to have a written policy detailing if they are monitoring staff electronically during work — and if so, under what circumstances.
E-monitoring employees can include checking websites they visit, tracking company vehicles and even reading their email.
The policy must include the purpose of the information collected.
Staff must be notified within 30 days regardless if they’re working from home, in the office or on the road.
