In a vote that many Western leaders called a sham, the Russian President is set to annex and claim parts of Ukraine occupied by Russian separatists.
Many foreign officials are siding with Western leaders in denouncing the “referendums”.
International news outlets reported that troops were armed and knocking on Russian doors to collect ballots during the voting period of five days.
In a statement released by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he states that “Canada’s strong ongoing support for Ukraine, including the continued provision of military assistance. President Zelenskyy thanked Prime Minister Trudeau for Canada’s military, macroeconomic, and humanitarian support to Ukraine.”
The leaders agreed to continue engaging and mobilizing global leaders in support of Ukraine, and against Russia’s ongoing brutal actions.
Moscow has recently threatened to call up reservists to fight in the illegal war and has also threatened the use of nuclear weapons.
I spoke with President @ZelenskyyUa this morning. I told him that Canada will never recognize Russia’s “referendums” – and that we will continue to provide the people of Ukraine with military, humanitarian, and financial assistance. Our support for them remains steadfast.
