Shovels are expected to break more ground at the River St sinkhole by the second week of October.
That’s according to the Project Engineer with the City of Thunder Bay, Mike Vogrig.
He spoke to Acadia News and elaborated on this project saying that a contractor has been secured for the work, and now the city is working on getting in touch with hydro and telephone to have those pieces of infrastructure moved so the work can move forward.
We expect ot start digging the second week of October. That sould be going ahead, it’s not likely that that it will get open this year unless we get really lucky with some weather. But nothin’gs really popping up to start the work this year.
Vogrig indicated that with the likelihood of the road not being completed this year, the section of River St would still remain closed to through traffic and only be available to residents until the work could be completed the following spring.
The sinkhole originally opened up on May 5, 2022, and closed the section of the heavily travelled road with it being cordoned off since then for various stages of repair.
