Those struggling with addiction can look for some help through a safe drug supply program coming to Thunder Bay
NorWest Community Health Centres is one of 73 locations to receive federal funding for the 15-month pilot program.
Clients using the program will be monitored, assessed and given prescriptions for daily-dispensed take-home oral hydromorphone for those eligible.
There will also be support available for those with various health and psychosocial needs, as well as assistance for finding housing, food security and finances.
Health Canada is funding the pilot program, while most are being set up in large cities like Toronto northwestern Ontario is fortunate to receive one closer.
According to data from Public Health Ontario, 122 people died in 2021 from opioid-related overdoses in Thunder Bay’s district.
