Thunder Bay Mayor Bill Mauro makes his intentions known for the October Municipal Election.
In a statement Wednesday, Mauro announced that he’s not interested in being re-elected as Mayor of Thunder Bay.
“I am nearing 25 years of political work on behalf of the City of Thunder Bay and the Provincial Riding of Thunder Bay Atikokan,” Mauro said. “It has been an incredibly gratifying work experience and I take great pride in the breadth of work, investment and accomplishments within Thunder Bay and the riding of Thunder Bay Atikokan.”
Mauro was first elected to City Council in 1997 and re-elected in 2000 before moving to provincial politics in 2003.
Mauro was elected as the Liberal member for Thunder Bay-Atikokan, serving in a variety of Parliamentary Assistant and Cabinet Minister roles until 2018, when he was elected Mayor for Thunder Bay.
When asked what advice he has for the next mayor, Mauro told Acadia News “It’s not about agreeing with people, it’s about amicably disagreeing from time to time and not being worried about the outcome of that disagreement. You can’t be everybody’s friend, it’s not your job. If everybody loves you, than you are not doing your work.”
