What could both of Thunder Bay’s downtowns use as far as improvements?
The City of Thunder Bay is relaunching the Downtown Improvement Grant Program.
What is it?
The Downtown Improvement Grant Program (DIGP) is a program that accepts applications from eligible property and business owners to apply to the city for grants to redevelop and invest in both the North and South cores and Westfort business area.
Eligible applicants can apply for up to four grants, to a maximum of $10,000 each. and can be stacked for a total reimbursement of up to $25,000.
The Improvement Grants can be used to…
- Rebate the cost of building permits and planning application fees
- Reimburse 50% of the cost to improve commercial façades
- Reimburse 50% of the cost to convert or improve a second floor into an office or residential unit
- Reimburse 50% of the cost to convert or improve a main floor into a commercial space
The budget set out by city council for the program is of $200,000 this year, the Thunder Bay CEDC is providing half of the funding.
