Good news for Canadian champ Mattea Roach. She was able to win her 5th game on Jeopardy! and clinched a spot on the show’s upcoming Tournament of Champions. She made $12,600 for a 5-day total of $117, 200. She posted on Twitter just before last night’s show.

Roach lives in Toronto, but hails from Halifax, with most of her family in Nova Scotia cheering her on, since her appearance last Tuesday, with much support from the community. She was even able to pay off her student loan with her first win.
And just like that – poof! Student loans: paid off. Congratulations, Mattea! #OverheardOnSet pic.twitter.com/LGTzayLfmK

In what I can only call a display of “extreme Cape Breton behavior,” my mom’s cousin put this up at the grocery store he and my great aunt/uncle run in Marion Bridge – feeling so incredibly supported!! Two more days ✨ pic.twitter.com/bORqgiOuvp

Mattea’s father said her biggest fans might be her grandparents Rolly and Patsy MacKinnon, who watch Jeopardy! religiously, long before Mattea even came on the show. Good luck to her for continued success. Here in the post-game chat, she gets a pointer from host Ken Jennings, who should be there permanently.

While Jennings and Mayim Bialik are currently taking turns hosting the show, that could change after Jeopardy!’s 38th season ends on July 29th. Stay tuned!
Delighted that @missmayim and I will be with you all season on @Jeopardy! https://t.co/8TuVJDc2db
