It might be an example of trying to re-create your youth.
Splish Splash Water Park sole proprietor Gerald Champagne, who’s from Thunder Bay, has gotten the approval needed to bring his attraction home in the summer of 2022 to Boulevard Lake.
“Boulevard Lake as a kid, before internet and phones, it used to be packed down there! Over time, it’s lost some of it’s appeal either because it was not the thing to do anymore or concerns over water quality,” said Champagne.
The Lake has seen a lot of work done on it, including hauling the garbage at the bottom away as well as upgrading the Dam.
Champagne started the process of getting the approval in 2021, utilizing the help of McIntyre Ward councillor Albert Aiello to have discussions with tourism, parks and recreation, and leasing officials.
He was always set on bringing the park to Boulevard Lake, but did have ideas of perhaps Chippewa Park.
“A place that has a natural draw already,” added Champagne. “People are spending up to eight hours in the water and they’re going to need to go to the washroom, to change and dry off. You can just open up at any lake but if you don’t have those facilities in place, it’s going to turn people off from going there.”
The attraction takes a scuba diver and eight people to set up over two days. The tear down takes as much as four days to complete.
