It’s been a while since fans were able to watch a Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey game.
618 days ago, the Thunderwolves lost 4-1 to the Ryerson Rams (February 12, 2020) in an OUA (Ontario University Athletics) playoff game before wrapping up their season on Saturday the 15th with a 2-1 overtime loss in Toronto.
This weekend, new players and a new season is around the corner as the men play a pair of games Friday and Saturday night against the Northland College Lumberjacks, an NCAA Division III team based in Ashland Wisconsin.
Head Coach Andrew Wilkins tells Acadia News the team has been conducting practices at the Gardens since after Thanksgiving, but a game is a different story.
“Even when no one’s in there, you can feel the energy,” added Wilkins. “There’s so much character and history in that building, which makes it a special place to play. You add a couple thousand fans a night, we’ve had the best fans and attendance year in and year out.”
Game time will be 7:00 p.m.
The regular season will kick off against the York Lions on Thursday, November 4.
