It’s a theme in Thunder Bay, the buses are available but there aren’t enough drivers.
As of Friday, there were four cancelled routes due to no one who was available to take the kids to school.
There is a silver lining, according to School Bus consortium manager Craig Murphy, “We actually started the (2020) school year with twelve bus routes cancelled long term. (In 2021) we’ve only had 1-4 buses cancelled on a daily basis.”
Drivers need to complete a COVID-19 self-assessment each morning, and have been instructed not to report to work if they feel unwell.
In the case that your child’s route is cancelled, “We do ask that parents be aware of the fact that this could happen with a shortage of drivers. Make sure you have alternative plans in place to get students to school, just in case.”
