The wildfire situation across northwestern Ontario continues to change from day to day.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry tells us that as of Thursday evening there were a total of 28 new fires across the region; ten in the Fort Frances District, seven in the Kenora District, four in the Sioux Lookout District, three in the Red Lake District, and two each in the Thunder Bay and Dryden districts.
The only area not to report any new starts was the Nipigon District.
There are currently five active fires in the Thunder Bay District. The MNRF says that four are under control while the other is not under control.
That fire, Thunder Bay 87, was last mapped at four hectares and was one of two new starts Thursday.
The other new start, Thunder Bay 86, was declared out after only growing to 0.1 hectares.
The fire hazard across the Thunder Bay District ranges from low to high.
