A local lawyer expects to go unchallenged as the federal NDP candidate for Thunder Bay-Superior North.
Chantelle Bryson is the only nominee heading into the riding’s virtual nomination meeting, to be held July 27th at 7:00 PM over Zoom.
Bryson says she’s decided to run for office after turning down several invitations over the years.
She’s confident in the NDP’s approach to things like transparency “knowing, under the leadership of Jagmeet Singh, that elected MPs won’t be silenced, and will be heard and their views will be included.”
“And that would translate into true representation for all the interests in our riding,” she adds, claiming the federal Liberal MPs are pressured to tow the party line.
Bryson suggests voters may not want to stick with the federal Liberals after how the pandemic was handled.
“How that will translate to the polls remains to be seen, but I think the automatic reflex of Conservative or Liberal with only die-hard NDP-ers voting NDP, I think that’s over,” she notes.
She says if an election is called and she is elected, her priorities would include support for workers and equity for Indigenous children and families.
Bryson says guests including Timmons – James Bay NDP MP Charlie Angus and Tanya Talaga will be speaking at the meeting.
