For the four years my family and I have lived in Thunder Bay we keep hearing stories of the magical blue ice. Every spring someone tells us we should go to Wild Goose or Sandy Beach to watch Lake Superior break apart and huge chunks of ice washup on shore. I’ve heard tales of ice bigger than Volkswagens and as blue as Frank Sinatra’s eyes. Last year we packed up into the Mini Van and headed out down Lakeshore Drive and unfortunately we were late in the season and missed it… all the chunks of ice had melted. On Friday I heard rumor’s that Chippewa Park was the place to go to find this mythical creature. On Saturday the boys and I ventured out that way to see if we could find some blue ice. Everybody else in Thunder Bay seemed to have the same idea as the place was packed. We found a few beautiful chunks but none as big as the tales we heard but still very cool… literally.
