The COVID-19 ward at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is taking in even more patients.
As of Saturday evening, there are 35 people being treated, 10 of those are in intensive care.
The hospital says this means it’s at 75% capacity, but it is also working to expand the ward even further.
Earlier in the day, another 26 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 as another lockdown approaches, with 23 in hospital, seven of those in ICU.
At that time, the Thunder Bay District Health unit reported 335 active cases, after 40 people were considered resolved. 30 people have died since the pandemic began.
The district will be entering into the Grey/Lockdown stage of the province’s COVID-19 framework starting first thing Monday morning.
Looking at the province, Ontario’s new case count has declined slightly compared to yesterday, reporting 1,184 new cases.
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre says it is meeting on a daily basis to plan how to move forward, but also implores everyone to follow the health guidelines in place including staying home as much as possible.
However, accessing urgent hospital care is essential. Therefore the hospital is reminding those who need urgent care to do so, the hospital is safe for that, as some people did not during the first wave out of fear of the virus.
