Saving money, even through a once in a century pandemic.
That is something that everyone in Thunder Bay should be proud of, according to At Large Councillor Aldo Ruberto.
“Twelve million dollars in Tax Stablization Reserve Funds! Thank you very much to the finance department for always insisting that we put money away for emergencies that are unexpected or unforeseen,” says Ruberto.
Ruberto first got elected to council in 2006, but he may be just as passionate about issues as he was the first day he got into office.
The At Large councillor also points to the fact that despite the coronavirus pandemic, those around the council table or ‘screen’ were able to forge ahead and do things to further Ruberto’s opinion that Thunder isn’t just a city.
“We’re a Northern Ontario Regional Centre! As a Regional Centre, we’re expected to have certain things like a university, a hospital, law school, medial school, arenas and other indoor facilities for sports, among other amenities,” Ruberto adds.
The soon to be fifteen year councillor wants to see work on the waterfront walkway continue in 2021. He also is pushing for more transparency, especially with the budget set to come out January 5th.
“We have to do a better job of letting people know what they’re getting for their dollar. When it comes to the budget, you put in what you think people want, you listen to the public, hear what they have to say and go from there,” mentions Ruberto.
