Thunder Bay Fire set to go before council with updates to their Strategic Master Fire Plan.
The document reveals options to eliminate positions through attrition, realign fire stations, consolidating the Vickers and Water Street Stations to a central location and relocating several other smaller satellite stations.
Fire Chief Greg Hankkio doesn’t believe all the data was utilized in these recommendations.
“You know it may have been the consultant’s intention to present options and then have administration go back and further analyze and look at the data in the context of what the citizens of Thunder Bay want to see from the fire service,” says Hankkio.
The Fire Chief, when discussing some of the other recommendations, says “[The key is] updating or establishing and regulating the by-laws [in place]. As an example, developing a fire inspection schedule that’s in keeping with the fire underwriters survey standards.”
