Sad news today, with Hal Ketchum’s wife Andrea revealing that the singer has passed away after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, at just 67 years old.
Hal’s family revealed his diagnosis and retirement last year saying that he had been battling for a while but because of his love for his fans, he kept performing as long as it was possible.
Hal, with hits like “Small Town Saturday Night“, earned his way into becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The New York native was multi-talented, spending a couple of decades as a carpenter and furniture builder before getting a break in music. Hal also became an accomplished painter, with his art being shown in galleries.
We’re thinking about Hal, his family, friends and fans today. Below is his family’s announcement, along with reaction from the world of Country Music.
With great sadness and grief we announce that Hal passed away peacefully last night at home due to complications of Dementia.May his music live on forever in your hearts and bring you peace. Andrea

“There is an indescribable place on that stage where it feels like you are a part of history, a very fine history, and I really like that a lot. I felt the magic of the Opry the first time, and, so, I came to it in amazement.” – Hal Ketchum

All of us here @BluebirdCafeTN are mourning the loss of Hal Ketchum. Hal became a regular performer here when the club was young & graced our stage many, many times throughout his career. Although he moved from Nashville to Texas, he was always beloved as a member of our family. pic.twitter.com/SuBTNJFKNl
