It appears there’s some confusion about the 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Eric Zakrewski, head of the Community Economic Development Commission, told City Council Monday night the city wouldn’t host the event.
He says instead, the CEDC and local organizers are working on hosting the 2022 tournament.
However, spokesperson for Curling Canada Al Cameron calls the announcement “premature”.
“We have not made an official determination or announcement about the status of the 2021 Scotties in Thunder Bay,” Camerson says in an email.
The tournament was scheduled for February 20th to 28th, 2021. Zakrewski says the CEDC committed $400,000 towards the fee to host the event, which would be carried forward if the city hosts the 2022 event instead.
