The top nurse in the province is fulling back a mandatory mask order in the city.
Doris Grinspun, the CEO of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, believes mask wearing is important until a vaccine for COVID-19 is created or there is an effective treatment.
“This virus is going to be with us for quite some time and we better get used to protecting ourselves and others if we do not want the economy to suffer the way it has,” notes Grinspun.
She adds “We know that countries that started with mask-wearing early on are performing much better than we have.”
Starting Friday, the District Health Unit will require you to wear a mask or face-covering in enclosed public spaces.
Meantime, the Association has started a new social media campaign called #Maskathon.
RNAO urges everyone – including children and youth – to wear a non-medical mask or face covering in indoor public spaces (shops, malls, other businesses), busy areas and transit and send us photos via social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) with the hashtags: #Maskathon and #TogetherWeCanDoIt.
