Patty Hajdu agrees the mask debate in Thunder Bay should not be political.
City council is expected to vote on whether to ask health official to make the wearing of pandemic masks mandatory in enclosed spaces and the Liberal MP thinks that is for public health to decide.
“I leave it with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to determine if this an appropriate approach for Thunder Bay and the region and the district,” says Hajdu.
The federal health minister also notes a mask law comes with its own drawbacks pointing out “There are consequences to mandatory rules. It means you do have to enforce them (and) it can also cause increased sources of tension for people.”
City councillors will be asked to vote on the issue at their July 20th meeting.
