A one day strike by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association will still be going ahead Thursday unless a deal is reached.
It comes even after the Education Minister Stephen Lecce agreed to lower class sizes to 23 from 25 and cancel e-learning courses in order to graduate.
Local OECTA spokesperson Carlo Capello says to expect to see Catholic teachers on the picket line.
“Until we see something that’s concrete at the table, or have a tentative deal we are going to go ahead with our strikes,” explains Capello.
“We cancelled our strike dates in the past in good faith to bargain, hoping we would have a deal and the government did not respond in good faith.”
OECTA was back at the bargaining table Wednesday with the government in hopes of getting a deal done.
Students of Franco-Superior and La Verendrye schools in Thunder Bay are also off for the day as the union representing those schools is also taking part in job action today.
