Tennessee-based Schurman Retail Group is in the process of closing all of its Carlton Cards stores in North America and that includes the one in Thunder Bay’s Intercity Shopping Centre. The company operates seventy-six retail stores in eight provinces in Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.
“Despite our Herculean efforts to realign our Papyrus and American Greetings stores to fit today’s shopping environment, Schurman Retail Group had to make the difficult decision to close all 254 of our stores in North America, which will impact our workforce of about 1,400 employees. We will close most stores over the next 4-6 weeks,” said CEO Dominique Schurman.
A Carlton Cards spokesperson tells us their products are available in over 6,000 retailer locations nation-wide and will continue to be sold without any interruption at Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaw family of stores, Sobey’s family of stores, Indigo and many more.
