There will be more independance for the police service board in the future.
The civillian board overseeing the police service is officially searching for a new secretary who does not hold a role with City Hall. They agreed at this morning’s meeting to put out the request for someone to fill the role. They approved spending $800 for an ad in the Chronicle Journal for the position.
Chair Celina Reitberger and Police Chief Sylvie Hauth confirm the Board is also in the process of setting up an office on Victoria Avenue.
Reitberger tells us it’s important to have their own location outside of Police headquarters for the same reason they now hold their public meetings elsewhere. She points out going to police HQ can be very intimidating for some residents.
She indicates she is hopeful that both the secretary and the office will be ready by the end of the year.
