One of Thunder Bay’s famous sons is being recognized posthumously today.
Sixties singing sensation Bobby Curtola will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and justifiably so says Thunder Bay music devotee Ken Boshcoff.
Boshcoff says “when you think about how significant Bobby Curtola’s career was to have number one hits in the United States and North America it’s…really big time.”
He strongly believes we owe Curtola a lot for “what he has done for our community” because he never seemed to forgot Thunder Bay and was very supportive of local charities and was “always lending his name” to worthwhile causes.
As a former mayor, Boshcoff was instrumental in naming a Marina Park street, ‘Bobby Curtola Drive.’
Curtola died in June of 2016 at the age of 73 following a career that spanned over five decades, which amassed 25 Canadian gold singles and 12 Canadian gold albums.
In 1998 he was given the country’s highest civilian honour, the Order of Canada.
