Four companies have made it through the Northwest Innovation Centre’s Costarter Accelerator program.
Innovation Centre spokesperson Ryan Lipcsei says what makes their program so special is $15,000 in funding for local businesses.
“There are a lot of community resources out there but what sometimes gets missed is the funding support to get them going.”
Over a three month period, the Innovation Centre helped mentor Toolbelt Pro, Border Giant, Lynac and Canada West Maple.
Toolbelt Pro is a mobile app that helps customers find the right person in their communities for tasks ranging from household chores to skilled labour.
Border Giant has developed a software solution that helps Thunder Bay businesses ship their products to the USA and around the world at rates up to 75% less than Canada Post offers.
Lynac offers a complete line of lightweight, portable suction products aimed at increasing workplace efficiency while reducing the inherent strains and stresses placed on the individual handler.
Canada West Maple is creating new maple products such as granulated maple sugar to support the growing demand for maple syrup in Western Canada and Internationally.
