An Indigenous education group is celebrating today’s graduation of 74 students.
KKETS hosted its sixth graduation ceremony that saw students complete their Aboriginal Skills Advancement Program, which incorporates emotional and cultural and transition supports.
The event was held at the Community Auditorium.
Matawa First Nations Management CEO David Paul Achneepineskum tells us their program is a real game-changer for members of their communities.
“The students we have are adults, most of them have families already, some are even grandparents. This is a second chance for them to graduate. It’s a chance to move on and attain greater opportunities for themselves.”
Many of the past KKETS grads have gone on to college or university or received skills training.
Pink Baxter from Marten Falls First Nation was this year’s valedictorian.
