Today, for some reason, according to the internet is Middle Name Day! Do you have one?
As I was curious, I looked a little bit into why we even have them in the first place and apparently, according to the internet, it’s a concept that dates back to ancient Rome! During that time having more than one name was an honour given to distinguished people. It started getting popular in the 1700s when aristocrats gave their children longer names as a symbol of their place in society. And apparently the common 3 name structure gained popularity when Europeans didn’t know if they should name their child after a saint or use a common family name!
Here, according to various surveys, are the most popular middles names:
Girls
Rose, Elizabeth, Grace, Mary, Alice, Florence, Marie, Ann/Anne, Louise, Jane, Frances, Margaret.
Boys
William, John, David, Alexander, Thomas, Arthur, Charles, Edward, Peter, Michael, Richard, Nicholas
