A truck convoy of supporters for pipelines is coming through our area as it makes its way to Ottawa.
“Convoy For Canada” is expected to be in Thunder Bay later this afternoon.
We’ve gotten word that the convoy will stop at the Terry Fox Lookout when they reach Thunder Bay, and organizers say they will be staying the night in the city.
Spokesperson Glenn Carritt says they are trying to counter the opposition to pipelines.
“We feel it’s been a loud minority that’s been getting all the voice on the pipelines and we need to let people know that Canada’s energy sector is in crisis and we need to have it.”
Carritt says they’re also fighting against the carbon tax and the ban on oil tankers along the west coast.
OPP are reminding drivers across the Northwest to be aware of the 75-truck convoy, and to plan on traffic delays on the Transcanada Highway.
