Did you watch the Grammy’s last night? I wasn’t interested in most of it but really wanted to watch the Dolly Parton tribute and acceptance of the Musicares Person Of The Year Award. They have been handing out this award since 1991 and Dolly is the first Country Music artist to win one. The award is to commend musicians for their artistic achievement in the music industry and dedication to philanthropy. Dolly has been doing her thing for almost 60 years, She has had 25 songs reach No. 1 on the Billboard country music charts, 41 career top-10 country albums, 110 career charted singles over the past 40 years, nine Grammy Awards, two Academy Award nominations, ten Country Music Association Awards, seven Academy of Country Music Awards, three American Music Awards, and is one of only seven female artists to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award… not too shabby.
Dolly is also an amazing person and spends a lot of time and money giving back including her literacy program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Dollywood Foundation has also been noted for bringing jobs and tax revenues to a previously depressed region. Parton has worked to raise money on behalf of several other causes, including the American Red Cross and HIV/AIDS-related charities. I can’t think of a more deserving recipient for this award and her acceptance speech a couple of nights ago was great.
The performance at the Grammy’s last night was even better. I’ve always been a fan of Miley Cyrus but wow, that girl can sing and her duet of “Jolene” with Dolly was amazing. The whole thing was great and I thought it was the highlight of the night. If you missed it check it here but the only clip I could find was this weird spaced out version so enjoy and relax…
