A new initiative from NorWest Community Health Centries is letting local health clinics offer more services to their patients.
Dr. Chris Allison with the Port Arthur Health Centre explains the new Team Care initiative brings a team of health workers to the clinic, including mental health specialists and dietitians.
“We did not have access to these services directly, but with the new initiative, we have three people in the clinic, I believe, at all times, and then access to foot care [at NorWest], so it’ll be a great advantage to our patients.”
The Port Arthur clinic, Superior Family Health and Aurora Family Health Clinic have been benefiting from the Team Care program since September.
Dr. Allison notes the Team Care initiative lets them offer patients these health services without sending them to another clinic, which helps patients who have difficulty travelling across the city.
Norwest CEO Juanita Lawson says they hope the program will give more people better and faster access to a variety of health services.
