After years of construction all four lanes of the $106 million Nipigon River Bridge are now open.
That is much to the delight of Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey.
Harvey notes the cable stayed bridge is actually two separate bridges which will help with traffic safety all year round.
The structure consists of three towers with cables supporting the bridge deck and a separate sidewalk for pedestrians.
It is considered a vital highway link for cross Canada traffic.
That became evident in January of 2016 when the bridge failed after a deck lifted when some bolts failed.
Authorities had to close the bridge for 17 hours which forced cross Canada traffic to detour into the United States.
