Thunder Bay’s Silver City movie theatre is applying for a liquor licence. There are a number of theatres doing the same thing.
To get your thoughts, we took our news mic into the community.
The vast majority of people don’t agree with it.
One woman said she wasn’t impressed, in fact, a little scared. She wondered what the point of it is, especially when she goes to movies with her 8 year old son. Most others noted movie-going is for families with kids, and should leave drinking to bars and parties.
Other comments ranged from more people being caught drinking and driving, to another expecting to have a bunch of drunks falling over everyone.
Another woman pointed out this will cause more people to need the bathroom, thus disrupting others.
One man felt this might not be good for Thunder Bay, since there are lots of problems here, while another woman noted there’s enough alcohol in this town, enough is enough.
On the flip side, one woman said “going to be a lot of fun movies now”. Another added “As long as parents control it, I know lots of people who get a movie and do this at home, maybe it’ll bring more people to the theatre.”
A couple of people noted it’s being done in Toronto and London, with people adding they seem to enjoy it.
A university student chimed in by saying he’d go to the movies more, while another woman said it makes no difference to her, she doesn’t get taken out on dates.
One more woman added it would be cool, just limit the amount of drinks people have.
