Over 80 early childhood educators are learning about how important play time is to children.
Sudbury youth expert Pierre Harrison spent Tuesday teaching adults how to get kids outside.
“Play has been diminishing as children have been growing up in this hyper protective health and safety bubble. So we are trying to help people understand that children need to have more control in their lives so they can guide their own exploration and build knowledge through play time.”
Harrison gave the adults random items and asked them to use their imaginations and come up with ways to play with them.
The founder of PLAYLearnThink tells us that playing teaches kids a number of skills and is just as important as math, literacy and geography.
Harrison was brought in by the Thunder Bay Health Unit’s Healthy Kids Community Challenge group.
