Memory Clinics have been expanded to underserviced areas in Ontario, including Red Lake and Thunder Bay.
Anyone suffering from memory loss or showing signs of dementia can visit their physician and be referred to a special team.
Dr. Linda Lee developed the Primary Care Memory Clinic concept and she says the teams can consist of family doctors, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacists and Alzheimer Society members.
The model will help physicians diagnose cases of dementia and allow for care at home.
The service is free of charge and is also now available in Schreiber and Manitouwadge.
Dr. Lee says the ultimate goal is providing care and support in home communities and keeping individuals out of hospital rooms on a full-time basis. (Photo supplied)
