A supervised drug use site is getting closer to reality after being endorsed by City Council.
Monday night, they voted to tell Health Canada that they approve of NorWest Community Health Centres’ and Dilico Anishinabek Family Care’s application to offer a space for people who use drugs with health providers standing by.
The small-scale service would operate seven days a week at NorWest’s Simpson Street location.
It’s meant to prevent overdoses and reduce the risk of harm to people who use drugs, along with offering other support services.
The application is in the final stages with the federal government, and is one of a few local organizations vying to offer supervised drug use in the city. (File Photo)
