Embattled Senator Lynn Beyak is still getting raked over the coals for her comments on the residential school system.
Thunder Bay MP Don Rusnak sent a letter to the senator asking her to meet with members of his Indigenous Caucus to talk about what he calls her inexplicable resistance to acknowledging the realities of what happened at the schools.
Rusnak says Beyak can’t speak on behalf of First Nations people while refusing to meet with Caucus members.
Earlier this month, the Indigenous Caucus reached out to Senator Beyak after she defended some aspects of residential schools in the Senate and at a meeting of the Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples. It asked Beyak to step down from the Senate and resign from that committee.
Today’s letter says her continued defense of the schools is counterproductive and offensive.
Senator Beyak’s office has declined our newsroom’s requests for a statement or interview. (File photo)
