Thunder Bay is getting an award for buying local food for city-run institutions like daycares and arenas.
City spokesperson Dan Munshaw accepted the Local Food Champion Award from the province, and says spending almost 40% of their food budget locally is a win-win.
“Procuring local foods is an economic development tool for farmers and producers in the region but then the flip side is we’re buying fresher foods that taste better and that are healthier it’s a win-win.”
Munshaw says the city spent over $395-thousand dollars from regional food producers last year. (Photo supplied)
