The commanding officer of the HMCS Fredericton says Canada's participation in NATO counter-terrorism patrols is important.
The warship and its crew of 260 are now sailing the international waters of the eastern Mediterranean Sea, currently engaged in maritime security operations.
Commander Trevor MacLean says government officials and military leadership from that part of the world are grateful Canada is contributing to stability in their regions, adding the Fredericton's mere presence at sea reaffirms our committment to NATO partners, and the importance of this mission.
The vessel departed from Halifax earlier this month to join Operation REASSURANCE - Canada’s support to NATO assurance measures in countries rocked by Russian aggression.
The Fredericton is expected back at home sometime in July.
