The public high school in the town of Atikokan is getting a $23 million facelift.
The Wynne government is going to add on to the existing building and convert it into a kindergarten to grade 12 facility.
It will have room for 412 students and will include three new child care rooms with 49 licensed child care spaces and a new child and family room.

Ontario is supporting families in Atikokan with a new consolidated K-12 school that will provide a modern learning environment for students.
Bill Mauro, MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan was at the Atikokan High School today to announce that the province is investing in a significant rebuild and addition to the existing high school to create a new K-12 school. This multi million dollar project will accommodate nearly 417 students from K-12 and includes three new child care rooms with 49 licensed child care spaces and a new child and family room.
This is part of a new investment across the province to build 39 brand new schools and undertake 40 major renovations or additions that will include more than 2,700 licensed child care spaces for children aged 0-4, helping more families access safe and affordable child care closer to home.
Ontario’s plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change includes free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.
