Clean up continues on highway 17 just west of the Kakabeka Falls bridge after a transport truck flipped over.
OPP say it happened around 1am, when the driver lost control.
They report minor injuries, with the 59-year old driver from Newcastle charged with making an unsafe move.
Traffic may still be somewhat delayed.
Other than that, police report no other collisions in town or on area highways.
OPP officers are on scene of a tractor trailer collision on Hwy 11/17 just west of the Kakabeka Falls Bridge. The eastbound lane is blocked, and the westbound lane is partially blocked by an overturned trailer. Recovery attempts to clear the highway underway. Motorists to expect delays in the area.
THUNDER BAY OPP RESPOND TO COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 11/17
(THUNDER BAY, ON)- On Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at approximately 12:43 am, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thunder Bay Police Service, Oliver Paipoonge Fire and Emergency Services and Superior North EMS responded to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11/17, west of Kakabeka Falls.
The driver of a tractor trailer unit was east bound when the driver entered the east bound ditch. The tractor and trailer came to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle, partially in the ditch as well as in the east bound lane causing the lane to be blocked. Traffic was alternated through the west bound lane.
The driver was taken to hospital by ambulance and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The driver, 59 year old male, from Newcastle, Ontario was charged with Unsafe Move -Lane or Shoulder contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
