The Harper government continues to crusade against Liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s platform on foreign policy.
Things heated up last week when Trudeau said a Liberal government would scale back on Canada’s military mission against ISIS.
Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O’Toole says the comments show Trudeau’s lack of experience, noting the government, alongside its allies, is already doing limited airstrikes, and training Iraqi forces on the ground to defend their own territory.
O’Toole says Trudeau’s platform to engage on just a humanitary relief basis is not possible without some security, and a military mission would provide that.
Meanwhile, the Liberal party candidate for Thunder Bay-Superior North says bombing missions are only making the war against the Islamic State worse.
Patty Hajdu says in the last six months, the deployment of fighter planes has only been detrimental. Hajdu adds the way Canada has supported countries in crisis with humanitarian aid in the past has been very effective.
