Thunder Bay and Fort William First Nation are teaming up to apply for a ten million dollar prize from the nation wide Smart Cities Challenge.

The competition encourages communities to adopt programs that improve the lives of residents through innovation.

Our community's proposal includes enhancing area trails with LED lights on smart poles with cameras placed along area waterways.

It also includes technology to support youth who are in our City to study, better connect with their remote home communities.

If they win the money, it would allow an enhanced response to the request made from the Nishnawbe Aski Nation to increase surveillance around waterways considered high risk.

You can find out more about this initiative by popping into an open house this week.
