Protesters of rock band Hedley believe the law system is failing victims who claim allegations of sexual misconduct.
Standing outside the Auditorium before the show with about half a dozen others, Sherrie-Lee Petrie spoke to a perception that many people lie about abuse, while statistics prove otherwise.
She says less than 4% of people have lied about claiming sexual violence, while 1/3 of people who experience sexual assault come forward.
Tiina Flank maintains that if Hedley were any other profession, they wouldn’t be allowed to go to work the next day, and therefore rock stars should be held to the same standard.
When speaking to some concert goers, most maintained the band is innocent until proven guilty.
One person told our newsroom some people will believe anything on social media, regardless of due court process.
Vanessa Vainio said the protesters told her if she stands with Hedley, just don’t jump into bed with them. She responded by saying no one was at this show to do that, and the protesters are going too far.
And, many parents put out the reminder that if other parents were in better control of their children, these potential problems wouldn’t exist.
The show went on as planned, with no incidents.
