City staff are shopping for upgraded security cameras for local trails and both downtown cores.
City spokesperson Karen Lewis got the go-ahead from council to start looking for where to buy new cameras and exploring options for a larger public surveillance program.
"Cameras have changed a lot in the years since the Eye on the Street program was first created," Lewis explains.
Lewis adds they're in the early stages of planning the program, which would cover an estimated 12 kilometres of recreational trails and waterways, in addition to potentially replacing the existing Eye on the Street cameras in the North and South downtowns. (File Photo)
