Students at Bishop E.Q. Jennings school are getting some new technology to help set up their own 3D printer.
Teacher Joel Biesenthal explains they won ten laptops and software from the tech company Autodesk, through their Makerspace Program.
He explains they’re hoping to use the new technology to create a mobile 3D printing unit, which could be used in a number of different classes.
“In language arts, you may be studying a novel, and there could be some artifacts from that novel.”
He says the Maker Space program could also allow the students to make a workbench, where they could make objects to help them figure out solutions to problems in their coursework.
The teacher adds the students won the $2,500 prize by submitting a video explaining why they needed to win.
They had set their sights on the $25,000 prize, a 3D printer, but Biesenthal explains that was awarded to two schools in the US.
The company handed out the smaller prizes to Bishop E.Q. Jennings and five other schools, to allow them to set up their own 3D printing stations.
